What are you talking about?

leadership mindset Jan 24, 2019

When you’re studying the subject of success (which I have been doing for years), you will know that there are big differences in the topics that successful and average people discuss.

In other words, your choice of conversation topics determines how successful you are in life.

Usually, the most successful people speak about the decisions of today and the future. Conversely, the average person focuses on the present situation and the past, ("when it used to be better").

Successful people talk about visions and goals, mediocre people talk about other people and events.

Successful people see opportunities and control risks. The less successful people see the risks and avoid opportunities.

Of course, this view is not black and white, but I hope you can see the pattern.

Here are three things you should pay attention to yourself and your colleagues during your next conversation or meeting:
  1. Future. What opportunities and possibilities do you see, which you can seize from today's...

The right focus

mindset productivity Jan 04, 2019

Welcome to the New Year! I hope you have survived the celebrations well and are ready for an extraordinary year in 2019.

Right at the beginning, an important tip so we can get on the right track and pick up speed quickly: Choose the right focus!

What do I mean by that? Well, we all have a consciousness that can only focus on one thing at a time (which is why multi-tasking doesn't work, but that's another story).

"And what is the 'right' focus?" you will ask now. Here are three focus ideas that will make a huge difference in your success, influence and fulfillment during the year:

  1. Influence. Focus exclusively on things you can and will influence. One of the biggest (often unnoticed) wastes of time and energy is focusing on things we have no influence on and that don't get us anywhere (Attention: Reading the newspaper is usually part of that, as are pointless meetings).
  2. Impact. Focus every day on making the lives (or businesses) of others better. This can be done concretely, and...

How valuable are you?

leadership mindset Dec 20, 2018

Especially at this time of year, many thoughts revolve around how we can do good for others. That is good but should not be limited to specific periods and events.

What do I mean by that? Well, for example, I travel a lot by train and sometimes wonder how each one of us has made the life of some other person, the environment or the planet better in the hour we spend here together. Most, unfortunately, not at all.

This is my message: Instead of actions from time to time, you simply work on doing something valuable for others or yourself every hour. Ask yourself every hour, every day the question: "How have I made the lives of others a bit better today?"

Here are three concrete areas to start with:

  1. Contents. Create valuable content that helps others, and that promotes something positive. Don't wait for someone to give you permission, take responsibility.
  2. Feeling. How do you make others feel? That can be as simple as a smile, a positive remark, a recognition, etc. Who should...

How to achieve outstanding results

mindset strategy Dec 14, 2018

When I work with my clients, we start with exactly one thing that makes a big difference in their later successes:

We set extremely ambitious goals (or exactly one). It has been shown over and over again that this is precisely the essential basis for achieving results that would otherwise hardly have been imaginable. More about this in the video.

When no one is watching ...

leadership mindset Dec 13, 2018

The true quality of a person can be measured by his or her behavior in these two situations: under extreme stress and when no one is looking.

In the first case, (to put it simply), our cerebellum takes control, and in the second case we have to "prove ourselves to no one." The problem: a strong and positive character only works in the presence of consistency. This means that you cannot be an outstanding person when you are in the limelight and an average person when you are stressed or alone.

Your character is constant and is only reinforced by situations. Why is this important? Well, if you want to achieve more (whatever that means for you), you need to consistently want it (and not just from time to time). And you also have to want it even when nobody is watching.

This is exactly why so many teams and people remain to be mediocre and often even frustrated and stagnate.

Here are three ideas on how you can change that for yourself and your team:

  1. Your identity. Define your...

What if everything works against you?

leadership mindset Nov 22, 2018

Sometimes, everything seems to go against us. Even the most successful people sometimes have hard times (usually even more than average).

The main difference is how quickly we get out of a crisis. I had written about this some time ago.

Today I have three tips on what you can do immediately to turn a negative situation around - or at least alleviate it.

  1. Focus. "Energy flows to where focus goes," is an old and true saying. You know this from skiing and any other movement: you will move to where you look. Therefore: consciously change your focus from problems to possible positive aspects or solutions. This is often difficult, but always possible.
  2. State. Your personal physical and mental state reflects the external situation. By radically changing your state, you change your perception of the situation - at least partially. This could be, for example, changes in the environment, your posture and the people around you.
  3. Action. We change our low energy state in negative situations by...

How to start your morning

mindset productivity Nov 08, 2018

For your daily productivity, there is hardly anything as important as your first thoughts and actions in the morning. How you start your morning determines, to a large extent, your performance throughout the day.

And not only that: Your own condition in the morning has an enormous effect on your environment. How you are first perceived by your environment (including your colleagues) sets the tone for the day. Every day sets the tone for the week, the month, and ultimately the whole of life.

So here is my message: Question and change your morning routines and help others to do the same. Below are three steps to doing so:

  1. Decision. Most people are not sufficiently aware of the strong impact the first thoughts and actions have on their success and fulfillment. Therefore, my tip: Make a clear decision to consciously start your morning better tomorrow. Even if you are already good at it, there is always potential.
  2. Gratitude. Our brain can only hold one thought at a time. And those...

"That's not me!"

leadership mindset Sep 06, 2018

One of the greatest hurdles that will prevent us from achieving more and resulting in us being more fulfilled by lies with the conviction is that we are "the way we are." Like someone's gonna tell us to be just like that.

I have news for you: We can turn into almost anything we want. Even then, we still remain “the ones we are.”

If you hear someone say (or you say it to yourself): "I can't do that," "that's not me" or "that's just manipulation," then this is nothing else but resistance to moving out of the comfort zone.

The problem is not only that people limit their own success, but they are also unhappier. This is like a tight cage that we build around ourselves to protect us against "dangers" from the outside. Not only that it also prevents us from growing.

Here are three ideas on how you can soften your self-built bars:

  1. Clarity. Understand that in principle you can change everything and achieve everything. The only barrier is almost always yourself. Another question...
