What an amazing change!

leadership Jul 16, 2020

Let me be honest: If I had predicted a year ago that people from the USA would no longer be allowed to enter the EU, that we would only be allowed on trains with masks on or that it is clear that no one knows where we will stand economically at the end of the year, would you have believed me?

Well, now we're in the middle of it - and you're probably feeling the same way as me: Somehow, things are progressing nevertheless - in some cases, not even badly. And what was unimaginable yesterday is now the new normal.

And this is exactly the reason why we, as a human species, despite very unfavorable physical conditions, have made it this far (for better or worse): We are collectively and consciously extremely adaptable.

Here comes the point for you as a leader or CEO: We are good at adapting to constraints, but we are bad at anticipating change. That's the problem with any culture change: If people don't FEEL the absolute necessity, they won't change anything.

Here are three areas in which I repeatedly see enormous potential in faster and more consistent change:
  • Business models. The corporate cemeteries are full of companies that believed their business model would last forever, only to be swept away, often within a few years. Why is it so difficult to change business models or generate new ones? I see two main reasons: First, too few people know how to do it; second, the existing one is much more convenient. Contact me for both points.
  • Winning team culture. Our culture is usually what keeps us in our comfort zone. Few companies manage to create a culture of discomfort where there is constant development–which is sometimes exhausting. You need the right mindset for this. That' s something you can work on, or better, you MUST work on. And you have to work on it continuously.
  • Customer retention. It is astonishing that, in most companies, there is still considerable potential for better customer retention, even though there are dozens of books and courses about it. This, too, has more to do with mindset than with processes.

In all these areas, what you consider normal today may be obsolete tomorrow. Do you want to improve the way you shape the future? Then we should talk. ➔ Make an appointment here.
